Roleplay Rules
1) Solastella’s islands are divided into three main groups - Solastella League, Archipelago, and OOC General Boards. A listing of which islands fall into which groups is here. Your characters may not, for obvious reasons, roleplay in the OOC General Boards, as those boards are entirely Out of Character. You may roleplay in Solastella League and Archipelago islands, but there are a few exceptions.
1.1) You must roleplay on Romulus Isle to start any character’s journey. You may not create a thread with that character anywhere else until you have arrived at Romulus Isle and received a Pokémon.
1.2) Once you have collected a Pokémon from Romulus Isle, you may create a thread with the character in the Trainer Centre board if you so wish, this includes the Trainer Hall, Pokémon Mart and a few other services.
1.3) Once you get your Pok?mon, you may buy a boat to travel to any of the boards in the Archipelago (regardless of position on the Island). Some boards may only be accessed after others are completed, these are generally sub-boards and will tell you about any prerequisite boards. You may take a ferry free of charge to travel along the rest of the Solastella League, typically from the last port of one island to the first port of the next, or vice-versa.
1.4) Though you may complete the Archipelago in any order (or not at all), you must complete the Solastella League in sequence. If you wish to return to an earlier area, you must complete all the threads between your character’s current position in the Solastella League and that thread. The only exceptions to Roleplay Rule 1.4 are listed here.
2) Your character may only be in one position in the Solastella League at once, however, they may be in as many Archipelago threads as you desire concurrently.
3) All RP posts must be longer than 150 words, unless they are in a shop, in which case they need not follow this requirement (or even be IC, for that matter). They must also be literate, which means no chat speak. Generally, third person should be used. A good measure of whether you’re following RP Rule 3 is whether the writing seems like the kind you might find in a fiction novel. We’re generally forgiving of minor spelling and grammar errors (though spellchecks and proofreaders are your friends), but constant flouting of Rule 3 can be irritating and bring down the site standards. Fear not, this is a site where we expect you to grow and improve, but there’s a difference between not knowing and not trying.
4) In order to prevent potential confusion and ensure fairness, you are expected to state at the start of a battle whether you will be using abilities or not, and whether you will allow your opponent to ‘canon-powerplay’ your character. This means that any moves which have a ‘un-avoidable’ outcome in the games, may have that outcome forced on the opponent. There are a number of ‘Types’ of canon-powerplay (or CPP for short), as well as some extra rules:
4.1) Type 1: Moves that are guaranteed to hit, such as Shock Wave or Faint Attack
4.2) Type 2: Abilities that automatically guarantee an outcome, such as Synchronize.
4.3) Type 3: Moves that will force a Pokémon to faint, such Destiny Bond (Perish Song is not included under Type 3 as it can be avoided by switching out)
4.4) Type 4: Moves that make the outcome of a subsequent move guaranteed, such as Lock On or Mind Reader, as well as abilities that do the same. This includes moves such as Fire Spin, Wrap, Leech Seed etc. which deal damage over an extended period.
4.5) Type 5: Any other unavoidable outcomes. If you are unsure whether an instance of CPP comes under Type 5, please refer the situation to a mod.
4.6) The use of abilities must be mutual (i.e. You must either both use abilities or not, this must be negotiated beforehand), but you do not need to mutually agree on CPP rules - you are not required to give permission for your opponent to CPP your character, even if they do give you permission.
4.7) If abilities are not being used for the battle, Type 2 CPP is void.
4.8) You may either list your preferences in your signature or on a battle by battle basis. With regards to CPP, you do not have to agree to them all, for example, you can permit your opponent to CPP Type 1 and 2 but not 3, 4 or 5.
5) Godmoding, the act of making a character powerful, all-knowing, liked by all, etc. beyond the realms of RP sensibility is strictly forbidden.
6) Powerplaying, the act of controlling what happens to another character (e.g. ‘He hit her with the rock’ as opposed to ‘He threw the rock at her’), is also forbidden. The only exception is CPP when previously agreed. This includes mod-made Pokémon and trainers.
6.1) Furthermore, only mods may make a Pokémon appear in your thread - you may have your character notice or acknowledge distant Pokémon, but none of these Pokémon may physically interact with your Pokémon until they have been generated by your mod.
7) This one should be obvious, but we expect originality - plagiarism will result in being thrown out of the site, hard. People pour their souls into their writing and stealing it hurts them a lot. Not cool, bro.
8) At the start of each battle, the stats for the Pokémon you intend to use must be listed. These must not change until the encounter is over, despite what may occur in other threads.
8.1) Although one is technically allowed to be carrying more than 6 filled Pokéballs at a time, or may have more than 6 Pokémon following them outside of their Pokéballs, it is very much frowned upon to use more than a maximum of 6 Pokémon per battle. Using more than 6 is banned in the League and in all other official battling competitions in Solastella, and breaking this rule in a League battle (against a Gym Leader or Elite Four member, for example) will result in an automatic disqualification. Outside of official settings, using a team of more than 6 is not technically illegal, although you will gain infamy for breaking this unspoken rule and most trainers' personal morals are against the unfair advantage it would give them.
8.2) If you have a character who chooses to use more than 6 Pokémon at a time for whatever reason, do not do this against another player who has not consented. First ask if they'd mind your character ganging up on them. If consent is not given and someone attacks with more than 6 Pokémon regardless, the victimized player may take the offending player to court if they so choose.
9) As on the rest of the site, RPs must be suitable for 13 year olds, which means that mature content is not allowed. If you really must discuss it, you can do so privately over a messenger program or PMs. Just remember that younger members use this site too.
10) Changing the personalities of Pokémon that are generated by other people (some people may call them the Pok?mon's "nature", but this is completely different from the in-game mechanic which does not exist on Solastella) is frowned upon except when the Pokémon is affected by in-RP events. It’s not okay for the Pokémon you traded to suddenly have a fear of water, but if they almost drown in one of your threads in Hummingbird Lagoon, it makes sense that they would be affected later. Generally, common sense is enough of an indicator for this.
