Key Information
Cara Friede Brandt--tends to go by Frie.
Slowpoke Morph-- Type 3, human with Slowpoke traits that can change into a Slowpoke.
Twenty-one years of age, born March 14.
Female.
Appearance:
As far as stature is concerned, Frie isn't very tall, or muscular, and therefore she fails to pull off the intimidation that more... fierce-looking members of her species can. Standing at precisely five foot, one and a half inches, the girl is overshadowed by most people of average height, and is even moreso by those graced with tallness. She's also rather chubby for her size: weighing in at one hundred and thirty-two pounds. This is, no doubt, a direct result of her usual inactiveness, for she doesn't eat in a way that would cause one to gain weight otherwise.
Though she bears no crazy features like other Morphs, such as huge claws, extra limbs, or extra heads, Frie is still quite the deviation from the usual, human appearance. Her flesh is pink; but, it is not the pink of a 'white' human's skin-tone. Is is the deep, rich pink of a Slowpoke's body. The skin itself is quite strange as well, being of an amphibious sort of texture. The skin is very effective at repelling water; and, as an added bonus, her hair seems to have gained some similar propertes. Frie's skin feels smooth and slightly slimy to the touch, though it is not nearly as bad as one might think it looks. Though it's a rather unique skin, it doesn't have much in the way of protection. Frie is quite prone to sunburns, and she's also susceptible to the cold.
Frie's face tends to have a dazed or zoned-out sort of look for the most part, with heavily-lidded eyes that are the color of a storm cloud. These eyes, although large in themselves, are slightly magnified by the glasses which she wears. These glasses are prescription glasses, for her eyesight is rather awful, but the lenses, which she has a few pairs of, are in different colorations. She is most commonly seen with a purple-tinted pair of them, though she also has a green and orange variety. Her nose is slightly large and rounded, and it, along with her mouth, is colored in tan, rather than the pink almost everywhere else on her body. The mouth is fairly large, often parted in a broad smile or grin. Two large, rounded fangs poke out from the upper lip, very visible to anyone remotely close. They do not appear particularly useful for any sort of combat, however.
Frie's hair is long and straight, and toned in a blond which is only shades darker than the tan of her nose and mouth. The hair ends at roughly mid-back length. Tied around her forehead is a black and white bandanna, with a few streaks of rainbow and a peace sign in the pattern somewhere. Poking out from her hair as well are two large, curled pink ears, which are usually flattened in contentment or serenity. The only other notable Morph feature about Frie is the large, Slowpoke tail which glides behind her. The tail serves little true purpose. However, it is, apparently, rather tasty, and if Frie were ever unfortunate enough to have it cut off, it would regrow itself within a few days.
Frie's clothing is pretty average. Most of her shirts are deep, rich hues, though her favorite is a dark purple shirt, which bears not only a peace sign, but also various, inspirational phrases along the fabric, etched in various colorations. She tends to wear jeans, which, by constant use, have faded and torn in a few places. Her hands are wrapped in two nearly identical gloves, which show the fingers and the back of her hands. The left glove is black in coloration, while the right glove is white. Her flip-flops are mismatched in a similar fashion, though the sides have been inverted: right is now black, left is now white.
Personality:
Judging by what exactly Frie is, one might assume that she is simply someone who enjoys lazing about, preferring to sleep or simply relax rather that doing anything that may need any effort. One might also assume her to be very slow, even to the point of being incredibly dumb. After all, that's what Slowpokes are known for, right? However, though each of these traits seems to have some truth, Frie is certainly far more complex than that, and anyone who assumes otherwise is, in actuality, quite rude.
Frie is known for being rather lazy, especially if the thing in question doesn't seem to interest her in the slightest. When given hard work to do for something she doesn't particularly care about, she simply can't bring herself to put effort into it. In school, she'd only put enough effort in it to pass the class if it were a math or science class. The girl simply has a mindset where most things seem insignificant to her. Those little, insignificant things don't need to eat up her time. It is very rare that someone, especially someone she cares about, can persuade her to put more effort into these 'trivial' matters.
However, if one sees Frie and merely expects her to not care, they will be quite surprised to see that she /is/ passionate about some things, and that she /is/ willing to put as must effort as is humanly possible into those things. Her goals of achieving peace and changing society are two such things, as well as training. It is very, very rare for her to be lazy about things involving this. However, if such a case occurs, it is most likely that the girl is feeling somewhat depressed or down. Cheering her up or inspiring confidence in her is almost certain to work.
Frie is also rather slow, though she does have the capability to be intelligent. It's just a matter of whether or not she cares about the subject enough to make the effort to get past the initial learning difficulty. This is why she's excelled in certain areas and crashed in others. History was a subject which she always found interesting, because of the work her parents did as well as the work that she'd be doing herself one day. She's actually pretty knowledgeable about history as a whole. English, with its questions that are more about opinion than anything else, was easy for her as well, and writing itself became a good way for her to voice her opinions about the world. The girl also studied two other languages: Spanish, and German. She has become fluent in both languages with much, much practice, and it has all been with the intent to be able to reach and communicate with more people in the world. One day, she might try a fourth language, though right now she is quite occupied with her goal of training. Concrete subjects, however, like Math and Science, are not very interesting to her. She also simply hates the idea of having to grasp such black-and-white ideas. Therefore, she never really kept any knowledge except for the most basic of math and science in her mind.
With Frie's interest in writing, it's no surprise that she carries a journal with her, writing in various languages poems and speeches which are surprisingly powerful. She will never ask to share her work with others, though if asked, she'll gladly oblige. Most of her work is centered around peace and change, though there are some poems about nature and even a few silly poems in the mixture as well. Frie intends to share them one day, by public speaking, but she's more than willing to let others hear that ahead of time.
Frie is very peaceful, and also very in-tune with nature. In the past, the girl's been known to simply sit outside for a few hours and observe nature at its finest. Being on a journey now where nature is nearly always present, it's very likely that she'll do the same at times in Solastella. She sees little need for rushing through life, preferring to simply meander about.
Frie is also very optimistic. Though she knows her terrible the world can be, she wholeheartedly believes that it can get better, and that every person has some good in their soul that can be touched and expanded. She can and will devote her time to expanding this good herself if she finds a suitable 'target', and at these times, she'll tail the person to a point where it can get quite annoying. Frie trusts too easily, but she never assumes the worst of someone, only the best. She is also quite affectionate even to friends, who she'll often hug upon greeting just to show that she cares about them.
In terms of sexuality and other issues, such as religion, Frie is completely open. She takes a pansexual approach to sexuality, deciding that there's no point in putting any sort of gender restrictions on who she happens to develop a fondness for. She also has no view on religion. Her motto seems to be that, as long as you don't hurt anyone or anything, it's fine to practice or be whatever you'd like. Frie also believes in equality between humans, Pokemorphs, and Pokmon. She treats any Pokmon with the same care, if not more, that she does another person. Seeing others mistreat Pokmon is one of the few things which will truly make her angry.
Frie's open to relationships, though she won't force one upon anyone. The girl tends to be even more affectionate than usual in relationships. However, she's also very honest, which some might see as a negative. She will, however, be true and devoted if she does get into a relationship, and she'll expect the same from you.
History:
Years before Frie was born, or her parents had even met, her father, Wolfgang, had such an interesting history that it in itself would have made a fine tale. The man was, at the time, a mere twenty-two years of age, living on his own in a little town so insignificant that it wasn't even recognized on any of the maps of the Johto Region. The population of this town was, understandably, incredibly small, and evenly split between both fully human races and a wide variety of different Pokemorphs.
Wolfgang was a very interesting man, well-liked among many of the other Morphs, and even by some of the humans, though there had been long-standing difficulties between the two different 'species', despite their many similarities. The man had always been called a free-thinker, and his mind had a way of coming up with incredibly out-there suggestions for problems that wound up actually solving said problem. If one needed advice, they came to him, even if he tended to be cryptic when he doled out such verbal gifts. He was said to be wise far beyond his years, and even the elders respected him.
On a personal level, Wolfgang always tried to remain friendly with anyone, even if they attempted to antagonize him. The Morph had strict beliefs about peace and balance that he never twisted around to suit himself, even if these beliefs were scorned. The man also had a full team of Pokmon which had never battled, and had all joined him simply because they adored and trusted him. The small group of Morph and Pokmon would have no doubt been content to remain where they were living for a long time. However, such a peaceful, happy existence was not in the plans for Wolfgang. The Golduck Morph was going to instead be tested to his full abilities by the tragedies that would follow.
Morph/human tensions had been growing higher and higher over the preceding months, and just about everyone expected violence to erupt at any moment. Wolfgang tried to reason with any of his friends that would listen, urging them to not partake if such an event happened. Violence was a pointless endeavor that would only increase the issue, he said. His friends scoffed, for what good would promoting peace do when they were getting slaughtered? Refusing to listen to him, they left, convinced that nothing would come from the growing tension anyways. More likely than not, it would simply be a minor skirmish, much like the ones in the past that had occurred so often. Wolfgang could only shake his head and hope that they were right.
They weren't. Wolfgang awoke with a start in the night to the sounds of angry shrieks and screams. The man rushed to the window of his house, Pokmon behind, and peered out, only to reel back in horror at the terrible, grisly scenes unfolding before him, like scenes from a movie. Morph fought human in bloody, terrible combat, with claws that glistened with fresh blood on one side and knives that glistened in a similar fashion on the other. Bodies fell, destroyed from the brutality, littering the streets in more numbers than Wolfgang had thought possible. Humanoids were not the only victims. Everywhere, there were Pok?mon as well, driven on by loyalty to their masters to shred and massacre each other as well.
Wolfgang could do nothing but stare, fighting the urge to retch from the gore. He did not leave his house, and he did not permit his Pok?mon to do such a thing either. He did not go back to sleep that night, however. The Golduck Morph didn't know if he could ever sleep again. The violence had been started by the Morphs, who had finally snapped from the constant tension and decided to attack before the humans had a chance to do the same. However, the violence had escalated out of control, and the whole town, as horrible as the prospect was, had been engulfed in the fire of bloodlust.
The fighting and killing lasted well into the next day, and eventually Wolfgang could no longer watch, his vision too blurred by tears, his mind too swarmed with dismay at the willingness for others to simply throw their lives away. He turned away, and did not look back until night was falling again, and the vicious sounds had finally ceased.
Nearly every living creature in the town had been slain or horribly wounded, and when Wolfgang finally ventured out, he sought out his friends. The ones who had scoffed before laid drenched in their own blood, pathetic corpses thatno longer had the ability to curl their lips upwards in a scowl. The sights ingrained themselves into Wolfgang's brain, until he thought that he may very well never think a happy thought again, for they had all been replaced by thoughts of humanity's flawed tendencies.
Wolfgang became overcome with his disdain and disbelief, and he simply abandoned the town, fleeing to somewhere more well-known: New Bark Town. There he managed to rent a small apartment with the money he had taken from his old home. Then, he thought very long and hard about what exactly he was going to do. He knew that the news of the fighting in his old town would have to make the headlines, whenever someone from another area happened across the scene. However, though he read the papers daily, he never heard even a word about the events he had witnessed. However, there were too many articles about Morphs and how they seemed to be tainting society to count. Something began to form inside of Wolfgang, a strange fire of sorts. For the first time in his life, he was angry. However, it wasn't at just humans, or just Morphs, for that matter. He was angry at everyone, filled with rage by the bigotry both races seemed to wield as weapons. Over the next few years, Wolfgang changed.
He knew that society had to change, if the peace he had desired was to ever be a reality. The Morph, who had never spoken out in his life before, began speaking out to everyone he could get to listen. He began speaking of how, if the people changed, the violence might end, and equality might rise in its place. He was, surprisingly, very good at it, able to voice his utopia in such a way that it actually made many people think. Still, the Morph was not terribly pleased. Things were not going as well as he had hoped. The world seemed to not be changing fast enough.
He was still alone at this time, and though he tried, a single person could do next to nothing on the worldly scale. However, one day, a young woman stuck around after one of his impromptu speeches. She was quite lovely, a Slowking Morph, and she had her own, strongly voiced views that were almost identical to his own. The woman's name was Katja, and she wanted the same thing he wanted: equality. Wolfgang found himself intrigued by her, and the two very quickly found themselves tangled in a strong infatuation, one that was mutual. After a few months, they were very much in love. They wed, never regretting that choice in their life.
Wolfgang found not only a lover in Katja, but also a partner, who would engage herself in his speeches and twist her own words in ways that complimented his. With her help, and the funds she made from being a teacher at a school in town, the two were able to make an association which was devoted to that which they aspired to the most. They termed it Morphs Striving for Equality and Peace, or MSEP. They were unable to gather a large amount of members, but they still managed to earn some nonetheless, and that was a step in the right direction. Slowly, their ranks grew larger and larger.
The MSEP was a strictly non-violent organization, and all members had to swear upon their lives to never shed blood as a result of wanting to promote their cause. Katja and Wolfgang were both very suitable leaders, and they had little issue in terms of members breaking the rules. All was going well; but then, another surprise came along. This one, thankfully, was a much more positive surprise than the one that Wolfgang had encountered many years prior. Katja was pregnant.
She took leave when things got too much for her; but she never stopped contributing, writing her speeches in conjunction with Wolfgang's and having him read hers as well as his own at any meeting. When the time finally came for her to have her child, Wolfgang was by her side. The birth was, luckily, quite an easy one, and that was how Frie came into the world.
She was first-named by her mother, who gazed upon the daughter who looked so much like herself in appear and affectionately christened her with Cara, a name which meant 'beloved'. Wolfgang, however, chose her middle name: Friede, the German word for 'peace', a concept which was so valuable to the both of them. Brandt was simply their family name, though they enjoyed the way it meant 'fire'. Perhaps they had hoped that, with the name, Frie would become a loving, fire of peace herself, just as devoted to their work as the two parents were.
Frie was a very affectionate child, always tottering around clumsily and wrapping her arms around someone's legs, cheerfully giggling about how much she adored the person and nuzzling her cute, fanged little face into the appendage. She was not the most active child, often content to simply sit around and look at books, even before she learned how to read. However, she was surprisingly observant, and very curious about the world.
Wolfgang and Katja made sure to raise their daughter with love, promoting such ideas as being open to all people, be they black, white, a Morph, or any other possible variety. They only restricted her when they thought that there was danger involved, and they tried to pend as much time with her as possible, despite their jobs. When she became slightly older, she often attended the meetings, sitting in the front where her mother could keep an eye on her. Frie grew up loving her parents very much, and respecting them for what they were doing.
When schooltime came around, Frie found herself struggling from the start. It might have been genetic (she was a Slowpoke Morph, afterall); but she struggled to grasp concepts that others grasped in minutes at times. She could still produce excellent results on occassion, but... school was quite difficult for her. She found herself often doodling lazily on papers, zoning out and missing whatever notes were being given. Often, she wound up going to another place entirely in her mind, much to her teachers' dismay. Her grades slipped even lower, and conferences were held.
Her parents were conflicted: they desperately wanted Frie to become successful in school; yet they did not want to force her too much and alienate her. Her mother began staying at home again much more often, helping the young Morph with her homework and aiding her in understanding her concepts. Frie's grades rose just enough to help her pass in most areas, such as math and science. She never really cared for either subject.
The subjects she seemed to have little to no trouble with were history and language classes, for she was enthralled with other cultures and their histories, including the issues between Morphs and humans. She managed to learn German, her parents' native tongue, with surprising ease, taking Spanish later in school as well. When her parents queried why, she had a simple, yet surprisingly mature reply, "Well, if I can communicate with more people, I can change the world faster, right, Mom?" Throughout middle school, she took classes about Pok?mon, history, and languages, embracing English as well as the foreign languages. Poetry, in all three languages, became a sort of release for her, in which she could fantasize about the world and the peace that she would help it achieve one day.
When high school came around, Frie began speaking out, joining clubs and trying to promote her ideas. To many, it was startling, to see the Slowpoke girl who still struggled in Algebra speaking so comfortably and maturely to an audience. She focused on her likes, continuing to get good grades in those classes while barely scraping by in a few of her other classes. Many people seemed to like her, for she never quarreled and never spread rumors about others. She merely wanted to be friendly, and she acquired friends, ignoring those who scoffed at her openness about everything and her 'goody-two-shoes' nature.
During her last year of high school, Frie experienced her first relationship, with a long-time friend of hers called Mikey. She was not the most beautiful creature to walk the Earth, and she was not graceful in her dating, either. The girl was very affectionate, content to merely hug and kiss her boyfriend instead of taking things too far and possibly getting awkward. Though they split up a few months later, Frie never regretted the things she did. She later had a short relationship with another friend, a girl named Michelle. It did not last terribly long either; but, Frie didn't mind too much. As long as she managed to stay friends with her, she was content.
When she graduated, Frie was unsure whether to go to college or not. Many of her friends were, but, it simply didn't have the same appeal to her. With what she wanted to do, she didn't need a degree. The girl joined her parents' organization for the next two years, gaining some useful experience and developing the urge to leave the town and go out and make changes. Her parents were surprised at her enthusiasm; Frie was not usually so intent about anything, even if she desired it. The cause was obviously very important to her. However, the two parents had their worries. Frie was still young, and not nearly strong enough to defend herself if anyone happened to have the desire to harm her. She would also be all alone on her journey.
They thought of a solution after a month or so, voicing their idea to Frie and asking what she thought. They said that she should go somewhere, maybe even to another region, and focus on training some Pokmon first. That way, when she did finally depart to a larger area to spread her views, she would be strong. She could even help people in whatever region she went to to train, for many people were not the most open and could use a bit of change. It was a very logical preposition, and Frie agreed readily. It took a few more weeks; but, eventually, the Solastella Region was isolated as the best choice. Frie departed a few days after the choice had been made, prepared to begin her journey.
Role Play Sample: Give us an example of your role playing. It can be for your character, but it doesn't have to be. It must be 150 words; you can check have many words you have in the word count box on the right side of Solastella. If you are having difficulty, you may ask for help in the C-box or in the General board. This role-play must follow all of Solastellas Roleplay rules.
Other:
Frie operates with a set of self-imposed guidelines about battling. These guidelines, while quite restrictive, make things, in her mind, just a little bit fairer than they would be otherwise. She does not expect others to follow such rules simply because she does, though shell certainly explain her reasoning of such rules to anyone curious enough to listen. The rules are subject to change, though its very rare that a rule is taken away. Usually, another rule is simply added. The rules that Frie happens to live by go, roughly, like this:
Cara Friede Brandt--tends to go by Frie.

I. First and foremost, one can only battle the willing. If a wild Pokmon chooses not to fight, then battle cannot be forced upon him or her. Likewise, if a Pokmon of the trainer wishes not to fight, that trainer must not force the Pokmon to fight. It is only if both sides consent that it is possible to battle.
II. Completely unfair advantages must not be used, such as type immunities. Sending out a Ground-type against an Electric-type, for example, renders most Electric-types useless. If your Pokmon has a type advantage, it may be sent out; but if it harbors an immunity to the type that is currently in-battle, you may not send it out.
III. Certain statuses only cause unnecessary suffering in battles, and should not be inflicted if at all possible. Poisoning and burning (and cursing, though its less common) damage each turn, with no exceptions, and in that regard, simply cause suffering. One should not have to rely on such tactics to win their battles.
IV. Other statuses that definitely render the opponent(s) incapable of movement are also unfair, shifting the battle into something completely one-sided. Freezing and sleep are the offenders in this case. While some may view it as strategic, these moves allow no chance for the other Pokmon to fight back, and are therefore unfair.
V. The remaining statuses, which only actually take effect part of the time, are allowed, but should not be overly relied on. Since a Pokmon with paralysis, confusion, or even attract has the potential to remain fighting, it does not completely skew the fight in one direction.
VI. While not a set-in-stone requirement, most Pokmon should have either a protecting move or a healing move. This permits them to, in a pinch, either heal themselves or remain conscious long enough to potentially end the battle.
VII. Pokmon that rely on Special attacks are more preferable to those relying on Physical moves, though one can never simply abandon a Pokmon they might find fitting simply because of that.
VIII. Finally, battling should not be a cruel or vicious cycle. Using strategies that some might call dirty or cheating is strictly prohibited. One should not aim to cause serious, permanent harm to an opponent, either.
