When looking at Joshua for the first time, you'd probably first notice the fact that he has blonde hair. It's slightly surprising to those who knew his family -- as it is, blonde hair is fairly rare in men. Considering his family history, it's hard to believe that Joshua got the blonde hair of his grandfather -- something his father didn't obtain, and even his own mother was touched with brown hair.
When his eyes were opened wide with the green-blue that was both mix between his mother and father, they wondered at first if the color would darken with age. However, that never ended up happening. Although Joshua strongly resembled his father, the few things of his mother (his less-than-average height, for instance) seemed to be enough for his parents to decide heredity was just playing games with them.
Joshua has a heart-shaped face, even for being a guy. This is one of the traits he got from his mother, much the same as the fact that he only reached 5'3" in height. His body is well-trained in both weight and muscle: he keeps his weight at appropriate levels for his height and he is well-muscled due to his many days working out. He is quite attractive to the eye, especially since he goes against the blonde-hair stereotype of being the "surfer" kind of guy.
While Joshua does keep his hair fairly long for a guy (not too long to where it reaches his shoulders, but it does go below his ears) and keeps it straight as he thinks curly hair on men is strange. He has a natural tan that makes his blonde hair look incredibly light as well, almost as if he bleached it instead of it being his natural hair color. However, he is all natural with his look, disliking forced changes to the body that cannot come naturally (such as working out -- the body is designed to be able to look good as long as you're not lazy.)
For attire, he keeps to simple, loose but stylish t-shirts and comfy pants. His shoe of choice are his athletic sneakers that he has had for years; he considers them to be one of his highest treasures. Beyond that, he also has a a purple flame tattoo on his collarbone. He doesn't have any other tattoos; really, it was a spur of the moment dare his friends gave him, and if he could he would have it removed (due to his beliefs, of course.)word count; 430
personality
Joshua is a fairly laid back person. He doesn't like to stress out and isn't much in a hurry for things. He'd rather take his time, do it slow, and do it right than to plow through and create mistakes. In a way, this can be seen as slightly perfectionist -- he will often stay doing the same thing until he is certain he is right. However, it was this attitude that got him to be one of the best students at his school and learn a vast multitude of things.
Besides his intelligence (and perfectionism) Joshua is quite simply a nice guy. He is always willing to offer a helping hand, and he'd rather put others before himself. He's dedicated and loyal, and he has a strong sense of judgment and feels like he can pinpoint who a person is or acts from just a few short minutes of conversation. However, it doesn't mean he's always right -- sometimes, people can surprise him.
Joshua, however, is not someone who likes surprises. He likes to be told things bluntly, and he doesn't like to beat around the bush. He'd rather have all of the information laid out before him before making a decision or opinion on something, and it can be very difficult to change his mind. He is extremely stubborn with his opinions because of how passionate he is about them. Joshua is the kind of person who would fight for his freedom of speech, and he is a strong supporter of his own rights.
As well, Joshua responds better with one-to-one interaction instead of being in groups. He doesn't mind being in groups, per se, he just doesn't relate to people as well when talking to them in groups. He feels alienated and hates the constant feeling of being ignored or even being the outsider of the group. He struggles to find his proper place within groups, and would rather have one-to-one discussion because he feels like he has the undivided attention of those he is talking to.
With his family, however, he is open and wide with how he talks. He is incredibly relaxed when spending time with his family, and he tends to joke and laugh a lot with them. He seems to be the most open when talking to his family, and he often finds himself being incredibly talkative. He'll chat endlessly unless someone stops him; he feels closer to his family than he does anyone else. He is sad to be leaving his family behind, and he hopes that maybe his sister will join him in the region purely because she is his best friend and he knows he will greatly miss being with his family.word count; 466
history
Joshua was born right on the new year: January 1st. His mother and father thought they were blessed to have a child who was born at the beginning of a new year, but as life went on, Joshua began to detest the fact that so many people would often forget that it was his birthday due to the New Year overshadowing everything.
However, the life that Joshua had was beautiful and amazing. He quickly grew into the kind of guy that spent a lot of time with his family and not as much time with his friends; however, all of that was perfectly fine with him. He grew up in and around his family and his family life, and he enjoyed not just spending time with his older sister, but also with his parents. They often went on vacations together purely to spend more time with each other, and this was never a problem for anyone.
Joshua did well in school from the moment he started. He quickly grabbed on to the ideas and concepts presented to him, and he was able to exceed further beyond the expectations of his parents after his sister's average days at school. He continued again and again to floor teachers with how easy he grasped concepts, and he would often be found helping his fellow students and friends about concepts that their teachers hadn't explained in ways they understood.
His excellence made him desire more and more knowledge, so he began to learn as much as possible. For quite some time he studied Solastella, desiring nothing more in his life than to be able to eventually go and train there. However, it was always just beyond the scope of possibility; his family was never strong with money, and the price to go to Solastella was just beyond their reach. However, he never denied his desire to go and learn as much as he possibly could, including learning Solastellan to the best of his ability with the information given throughout the other regions.
When Joshua had his seventeenth birthday, he wasn't expecting much. He hadn't asked for anything; he knew they were trying to save up for him to go to further schooling after the basic primary education, and that alone was difficult to save for, especially considering his father lost his job and had been jobless for nearly a year. So you can imagine how shocked Joshua was to receive a small, rectangular parcel and opening it to find all the tickets through plane and boat he needed in order to travel to Solastella.
Ecstatic, he began to quickly realize that his true dream was coming to life. Within the next few months, Joshua prepared for his journey before he finally left to go to Solastella on his eighteenth birthday. Although he was disappointed to leave his family behind, he looked towards his future, knowing it was finally about to begin.word count; 491

The sun was just rising over the horizon as Joshua opened his eyes. He blinked a few times, trying to focus his eyesight. The blurred lines of the ceiling fan above his head began to clear until finally he could count each second as it passed by, still on even though the weather outside would expect otherwise.
He rolled over in the bed, sighing. He'd spent the last ten days since arriving in Solastella mainly looking around. He'd already found the Pok?mon Laboratory, but he hadn't entered. He was more interested in finding out the history than anything else. As he finally slipped out of the bed, he shivered as his exposed chest met with the cold surroundings. Shooting another glance towards the ceiling fan, he stood on his toes and turned it off, before wrapping his arms around himself, looking around for a warm shirt to wear.
As he dressed, he thought quietly of his plans. Yes, he would go to the laboratory and choose his Pok?mon today. But what Pok?mon? There were so many options, and he had no idea where to begin. He sighed, stepping out of his room and walking towards the reception area of the Pok?mon Center, looking around and finally walking up to the nurse. She looked at him and smiled.
"Olleh. Llewpeel suo ydid?" the nurse asked, already knowing that Joshua was one of the new trainers to the region that knew the home language already.
Joshua smiled politely. "Sknaht. Esahcru profe effocy nasie rehtf ignir ed now sa wi?"
The nurse nodded. "Eerfrof ereh eeffoc emos evahe w. Yapotdee non."
After getting his coffee, Joshua walked back to his room, sipping the hot liquid slowly before plopping back onto the bed, clasping the coffee between both his heads as he sat cross-legged, bowing his head and thinking quietly for a moment.
There were many powerful Pok?mon he could choose from; anything that wasn't endangered or rare here was up for grabs. This left him with hundreds of options to choose from. He immediately crossed the base starters of the other regions from his head; if he wanted to train them, he could go to those regions.
After sitting there for a while, he deliberated between two Pok?mon. Both of them were part Dark type, and both of them were from Unova. As he finished up his coffee, he began to contemplate between his two choices as he packed his belongings and began to head towards the laboratory.
It was only a short walk, and as he stepped inside he suddenly knew which one he was going to pick. Nothing, he thought, would make him happier than training up a Scraggy into a Scrafty. Now knowing exactly what he wanted, he took a deep breath and smiled.
