It was a cool day as Eva set out for her walk to the lab. The temperature wasn't rising much above forty-five degrees and a sort of chill began to float through the air. Eva didn't mind much, she had dressed herself warm. She had put on two layers for both pants and tops and had a nice warm jacket to boot. A scarf wrapped around her neck as well as thick gloves covered her fingers from the elements. The last thing she needed was to catch a cold on her first real adventure.
Eva had chosen to stay in a hotel that was pretty close to the lab, and boy... had she paid for it too. Having called ahead, Eva knew the people at the lab were ready and waiting for her. She hadn't given them an exact time, but a nice estimate of when she'd arrive. So far, she was on time.
Following the well-worn road led to the lab within half an hour. It looked no different than Eva guessed it would, still she took a moment to marvel at the building. As soon as she stepped inside, her adventure truly would start. 'Now or never. She thought to herself.
Entering the lab took more courage than Eva realized. Part of her was nervous. Becoming a trainer meant lots of work. And the worst part? Eva had no clue as to what Pokémon she wanted. She didn't even have a type in mind. As long as it was at least a two evolution Pok?mon, she didn't quite mind what she got. As she approached the front desk, Eva looked about. No one seemed to be there at the moment, "Hello? Anyone here? I'm here for my first Pokémon... I called last night."
OOC: Just as an FYI, I want Eva to have a choice of Pokémon rather than having to choose one herself. Usually the Pokémon she chooses helps develop her characters. I'd like her to either have a flying, or grass/bug type. Or maybe even a normal type.

Tam had had a late night. This was due to lots of things, but he mostly blamed it on his Pokémon. Most of them were nocturnal and all of them were clingy. They woke him up the moment he tried to sleep, even when he locked himself in the closet so as to escape them. He supposed it was his own fault for choosing ghost Pokémon and being kind hearted enough that he couldn't just snap at them to go away. Of course, after three nights of almost no sleep, he would lose his temper and shout at them. They would then hide for the night and he could get some sleep. The next night however, they were back up to their normal tricks. It was an endless cycle and probably not a very healthy one, but Tam couldn't think of anything else to do. As soon as morning had come he had fled to the lab, since they knew very well not to follow him there.
He had done some paperwork and then, being exhausted, he had sat down on the floor behind the counter, telling himself that he would hear anyone coming in time to stand up. Five minutes later he was sound asleep.
"Don't, Tai, that's not for you," he muttered as he was woken by Eva's voice, standing up in the flurry of movement, a piece of paper stuck to his cheek. His wide blue green eyes took in the area around him and his body relaxed a little.
"Ah, sorry about that," he apologized, pulling the paper off her check and giving her a sheepish grin, "I'm Tam, the lab assistant today. What can I help you with?"
He ran a hand through his messy blond hair as he waited for the answer, hoping desperately that she wouldn't be mad at him. He needed this job and he had already been told that if someone complained about him sleeping on the job again he'd be fired.

Eva couldn't help but giggle at the sight of the sleeping lab assistant. Poor guy, Eva knew just how he felt, she had spent a rather restless night tossing and turning as nerves worked their way into her head. What if for some reason she couldn't get a Pok?mon? Or perhaps a Pok?mon didn't want her? It was all too much to think about, yet Eva couldn't find it in herself to shut it up.
Smiling, the blue haired girl took a moment to study Tam. He seemed to have dark rings around his eyes, "Sleeping problems?" Eva guessed, her tone rather friendly. "Anywho, I guess I'm here for my first Pok?mon." She said, switching her wait from one foot to the other.
Pausing a moment, Eva realized it would most likely be good to provide more information on what she was looking for. Too bad she didn't have anything like that. "Here's the hard part... I don't actually know what I want. I grew up in a pretty much uncharted region. There were some Pok?mon, but not many, you know? I never really saw much and the people who went off to become trainers never really came back. So I don't know what kind I want. Hell, I don't even know what type of trainer I want to be. I'm not the kind searching to be the best, I just want to get by." Eva explained, curling a lock of blue hair around her fingers.
So, erm... I guess, do you have any Pok?mon that you could recommend or show me? Any Pok?mon that have been sitting around for awhile looking for a home?"

The girl's giggle was enough to relax Tam's somewhat strained grin into a bright smile. He wasn't completely sure, but he doubted that someone who seemed amused by him would report him.
"Yeah, a few," he said to her, laughing a little and resisting the urge to explain all about his Pokémon. He had learned that many people didn't like to hear about them and he suspected that telling the girl about Pokémon who kept someone up all night wasn't the best idea when she was about to get her very first Pokémon.
He listened patiently to her explanation, a thoughtful look coming over his face. He didn't often have to deal with new trainers who didn't know what Pokémon they wanted; more often he had to deal with telling them that no matter how much they wanted one, the lab didn't give out eevee.
"Well," he began slowly, "If you don't have much experience with Pok?mon, you wouldn't want the more difficult ones. That means ghost, ice, fire, steel, rock, ground, electricity, poison, fighting and psychic probably aren't a good idea. And no Pokémon that start out large or typically have nasty tempers. Would you like a water Pokémon? Solastella is filled with water, so it could help you travel. Grass, normal and flying types should be fine as well."
He paused for a moment and then said delicately, "Also, is there...ah, a certain look you'd prefer? I mean, some Pokémon are considered 'cuter' than others...."
Tam wasn't sure what kind of Pokémon a blue haired girl who wasn't a gijinka would prefer, but he was willing to look like an idiot and ask. He didn't want any of the Pokémon going to someone who wouldn't love them for everything they were.

Eva mulled over the choices she was given. What the man said was most likely true. Though Eva couldn't tell otherwise. Electricity and fighting seemed out of the question. So did ice, the last thing Eva needed was a Pok?mon that would only make the outside colder. Again, she mulled over what the man had given her in terms of Pok?mon types. Water sounded nice, considering there was a lot of water in the region. Eva had done her homework and had seen that the whole region were island.
She had also found out she would need to pay to access certain types of areas. Boat fees and the like. Then again, if the world was really surrounded by water finding a water type wouldn't be hard. This left her with three option, grass, flying, and normal. Normal seemed to well.... normal. A normal Pok?mon seemed like the type she saw when she was younger. Grass Pok?mon had always been rare, too. Flying she was a bit familiar with, although those Pok?mon had always seemed somewhat flighty in terms of personality.
Eva decided, perhaps a grass Pok?mon to start with. "Grass, if you can. Like I said, I don't really know any types... So, you pick for me?" Eva said, trying to look as sweet as possible in hopes that he'd bring her something good.

Tam braced himself on the counter and waited for the girl to finish thinking over her options. He didn't want to push her into anything, since the decision of which Pokémon to start a journey with wasn't one to take lightly.
When she decided on a grass type Pokémon he smiled and nodded automatically, glad she hadn't decided on one of the ones he had said wouldn't be a good idea. She seemed easy going to him, but Tam had learned that his first impressions of people was often wrong.
"I'll do my best," he said, grinning, honoured that she was going to let him choose her Pok?mon, "I'll bring out some of the ones I'd think you might like and you can tell me which you like best. Then I'll bring out two more of that species."
Tam didn't bother waiting for her answer in his enthusiasm, bounding out the back of the lab and into the garden outside. He wouldn't have minded just finding one species of Pokémon for her, but it was lab policy to give the trainer a choice of three. He didn't dare break another of the rules when his sleeping was such a problem. He had to have his job, as he couldn't be a trainer and he had to feed his Pokémon somehow. Other places weren't quite so sympathetic to his Pokémon following him to work.
He went through the garden, snatching some Pokémon up at random, apologizing to them in his quietest voice for the disruption. The warm bodies of Pokémon filled his arms and the scent of flowers made him smile. This was why he had wanted to become a lab aide, though of course his Pokémon had factored in as well, like they always did.
He came back out of the garden with four Pokémon in his arms and a streak of dirt on his cheek, contrasting with his pale skin.
"If you don't like them, I can go find more," he told Eva, his face nearly obscured by the Pokémon.
The first one, a snivy, was limp in Tam's arms, it's eyes closed as though it was sleeping. The second was a small petilil who was looking at the ground. The third was a lotad half on top of the petilil and grinning bashfully, as though aware it probably wasn't going to be chosen. And the last was what looked like a ball of fluff; a cottonee. It was quivering, though it was hard to tell why.
"What do you think?" Tam asked fondly, "They're all wonderful, I promise."

Eva waited as the man bounded off to the back. Using the time she had alone, she took a moment to study the lab. It was a wide open area with many bizarre looking machines thrown about. If Eva could guess what they did it'd be a miracle. Back in her home region it wasn't exactly too modern. It had taken over twenty years to finally get ATMs around enough so that they were actually used by people other than the rich.
When the man came back, Eva felt herself giggling again. The Pokémon in his arms seemed to be a mix of different personalities. Ever cuter was the fact that Tam had a streak of dirt on his face. Getting serious, Eva looked over the four Pokémon. Two of them seemed completely and totally unfit for travel. The Petilil seemed downtrodden while the cotten-fluff thing seemed terrified. That left the two other Pokémon. A green serpentine one and a bouncy looking one with a lily pad on it's head.
It didn't take long for Eva to pick who she wanted. "I want that Lotad." She said finally, after smiling at the Pokémon. "You have others, I assume?" Eva looked towards Tam, aware of seeing others like it and being able to choose which one she liked best.

Tam was a little surprised at her choice, but recovered quickly. In his arms, the lotad's grin became even brighter, though there was still an edge of incredulity to it. "Of course, I'll just go get them," he said cheerfully, "These guys can go back. Say good bye to the trainer, okay?" The last sentence was clearly said to the Pokémon. The cottonee offered a quiet sound that might have meant goodbye and the petilil waved. The snivy didn't seem to notice that someone was speaking at all. Tam quickly went back to the garden, dropping all the Pokémon but the lotad off and then wandering over to the pond. The lotad tended to gravitate there and he wasn't sure where he'd look for them if they weren't there. Luckily, they were, one in the water and one by the edge. He picked them bother up gently and settled them in his arms with the first lotad, who was cheerfully talking to them about something or other. Tam assumed it was about the trainer that wanted to look at them. He walked back into the lab and put the lotad on the floor in front of Eva, mentally noting that he'd need to clean up the watery footprints on the floor one lotad had left. Then he went back to the counter, nearly skipping in his glee of giving a Pokémon away and an unlikely one at that. Tam opened a drawer, rummaged around in it for a moment and came out with two items. The first one he set on the counter in front of Eva, but the second one he held up in front of her and pressed a button. There was a small flash and Eva's expression was captured. "This is your phone. You can use it to scan Pok?mon," he said, waving a hand at the phone as he set down the other item beside it, "And that's your trainer ID. You don't want to lose them. Now, all you have to do is choose a Pokémon." The lotads looked up at these words, their glances focused on Eva. One was pleading, one unabashedly cheerful. and the last considering. Blue eyes wandered over the three Pokémon that were laid out before her. All of them looked the same. The only thing she could use to tell them apart was their personalities. All of them seemed somewhat eager to join her, although one caught her eye more so than the others. It was the first one, who's eyes seemed to be pleading. Along with the rest of it, of course.
Still, not wanting to be hasty Eva looked at the other two. The third one seemed very grounded, and very little emotion showed in it's eyes. The middle one just seemed happy to be out and about. Eva liked it's joyous attitude, but she still felt herself looking at the first one. It seemed to simply want to go without her and frankly Eva felt the same. "How about that first one?" Eva said more to herself than Tam.
She took the supplies from the lab assistant and pushed them rather haphazardly into her pack. "This is going to be so awesome." Eva said to her new Pokémon. She turned to look at Tam, "Thank you so much for all your help today. I can't thank you enough for being patient enough to help me out in finding a good Pokémon. Your name is Tam right? In the next few days I'm going to write a letter to the professor thanking him for leaving you in charge! You really were super helpful."
Eva took the pokeball that the Lotad would come in and placed it on her belt. "How's about it Lotad, shall we be on our way?" She asked her Pok?mon, turning on her heels and walking to the front. The Pokémon bounded after it's new trainer happily, excited for the adventures ahead.
OOC: This is done then, yes?

Tam grinned at the lotad that was picked, glad to see that she was chosen. The other lotad were happy enough in the lab, but the one Eva had chosen desperately wanted to leave. He was grateful that she had been given the chance.
"Thanks," Tam said, smiling widely in reply to Eva's words, "Best of luck on your Pokémon journey."
He really did hope that she enjoyed her journey and not just because she had offered to send a letter that praised him to the professor but because he wanted everyone to be happy with Pokémon as he was. He knew it was a little silly and idealistic, but he wouldn't give up Tai or any of his other Pokémon for anything and he hoped everyone would feel that way after some time spent with their Pokémon.
Of course the letter would be useful and it didn't take long for Tam to lose himself in daydreams about how it could help him after she left. He would have more time, maybe enough to find a new job or convince some of his Pokémon to battle. Or maybe the professor would decide he was actually a good aide and ignore the reports of him sleeping on the job.....
