Name:
Amber Ryelz
Age:
17
Gender:
Female
Appearance:
Amber stands somewhat below average at her five foot one height. She has dark blonde hair that is about shoulder length, but its fairly unkempt. Her dark blue eyes seem normal for the most part, except for the small brown specks that are visible upon closer inspection. Amber has a slight build befitting a girl of her age who does a moderate amount of exercise.
When she gets agitated, Amber's skin gives off a slight bluish aura that is immediately noticeable to anything more than the casual glance. To lessen the effect Amber normally wears clothes that cover up her body in an attempt to hide some of the intensity. Specifically, she wears long pants, white tennis shoes, and long sleeve t-shirts. When it's colder out, Amber simply puts on a sweatshirt or jacket over the t-shirt.
While her clothes generally do a good job of covering up the glow from her body, Amber's face will still start to glow unhindered. However, she does carry a small case of a powder that she'll occasionally apply to her face before a potentially stressful situation in a further attempt to hide her glow. In addition to her clothes, Amber carries a peach colored satchel that she uses to hold her items and Pokeballs.
Personality:
While Amber used to be somewhat of a hothead, she has recently calmed down and tried to keep control of her emotions. However, she has taken it to the extreme where she is now fairly quiet and shy because she wants nothing more than for her condition to remain unnoticed. The one exception to this is during a competition, whether it be a contest or just a particularly stressful battle. Amber also has a slight problem with making friends because she thinks that they will ditch her once they see how she's a 'freak' (her words). Only once someone has seen her glow and still stayed by her side will she really trust them.
When it comes to Pok?mon, Amber spent her entire young life wanting strong Pokémon so that she could be a trainer, but she had to reevaluate this opinion when she changed her goals to becoming a Coordinator. As a lingering side-effect of this preference, Amber secretly believes that her Pokémon dislike her as they are unable to evolve and get stronger simply due to her presence. In an attempt to try to make it up to her Pok?mon, Amber refuses to make a switch to her team unless its absolutely necessary so that her Pokémon won't think she's just swapping them out for a stronger Pokémon.
History:
Amber was born and raised in Pewter City in the Kanto region. Her parents spent much of their time at their jobs at the Pewter Museum of Science where they worked as researchers. As a result of their absence, Amber was almost always looked after by her older brother, Mike, who she was enamored with. Being five years older than his sister and entrusted with her safety, Mike quickly became very responsible and as a reward he received an Aron for his twelfth birthday from their parents. When it was hinted that Amber might be a Pokémon of her own on her twelfth birthday as well, she immediately started following her brother around even more, looking forward to the day when she could become a trainer like her older brother.
One day when she was nine, Mike told Amber to stay at the house because he was going to have a battle with another kid in the city and he couldn't watch Amber at the same time. However, Amber was so excited to see a Pokémon battle that she disregarded his command and followed him to the fight without his knowledge. Once the battle had started, Amber snuck over to the sidelines in an attempt to get a better view of the Pokémon. At one point in the fight Mike commanded his Aron to use Headbutt, but the other trainer's Sneasel jumped out of the way and Aron instead hit the wall of the cliff face they were battling by. When Aron hit the cliff, some rocks were immediately turned into a powder by the force and flew into the air, landing directly on Amber. Much to her horror, having the powder land on her caused her to sneeze and she was immediately discovered by Mike.
After seeing that Amber was covered by the heavy blue powder, Mike called off the battle and dragged his sister to see his parents at the Museum, despite her protests. When they arrived, the children's parents immediately started to analyze the powder after they had wiped it all off. They quickly discovered that the powder was a crushed Everstone, but some of it seemed to have seeped into Amber's skin. It quickly became evident that Amber was giving off a blueish glow when she got excited as a result of the Evestone dust. As an automatic reaction, Amber's parents harshly suggested that Mike should travel the region if he wanted to battle Pokémon so badly so that he would not endanger his sister. Hurt by his parents knee-jerk reaction, Mike left the next day with all his savings in hopes of becoming a stronger trainer. After a couple days of his absence, his parents called him saying they were sorry and that he should come home, but Mike refused saying that he had already started his journey and didn't want to give up already.
Meanwhile, Amber had already started to blame herself for Mike's departure, despite what her parents tried to tell her. For the next year, Amber spent most of her time learning about Pokémon in the hopes that her future as a Pokémon trainer would make up for her past failings. For the next few couple years, Mike stayed away from home except for holidays and birthdays. On Amber's eleventh birthday, Mike gave her a Seedot that he had caught as a present. Now that she finally had a Pok?mon, Amber played and trained with Seedot every day, looking forward to the day when it would evolve into a Nuzleaf and eventually a Shiftry. However as the time continued to go by, it became evident to everyone that both Amber and her Seedot weren't growing as they should be. While other girls that were Amber's age had their growth spurts and shot up in height, Amber grew slowly and not as much. Likewise, despite their constant training, Amber's Seedot still hadn't evolved into a Nuzleaf.
Concerning that their daughter might become distraught if her Pokémon continued to not evolve, her parents took the Grass type to the Museum's lab to run a few small tests. They were astounded when they discovered that the Seedot seemed to have high levels of Everstone dust in its system. Remembering the incident a few years ago, Amber was brought into the lab for tests of her own. However the machines weren't picking up anything unusual on Amber, until her parents asked her to induce her glowing on purpose. Since she had been teased incessantly by the other girls about her condition, Amber was very hesitant, but finally agreed. Almost the second her skin started to glow blue, the machines started to pick up large amounts of invisible Everstone dust in the air. As soon as her parents broke the news to Amber, she called Mike and told him to come home.
After rushing home due to the urgency in Amber's voice, Mike was surprised when Amber presented him with Seedot's Pokeball upon his arrival and then promptly went to her room and started to cry. Before Mike could run after her, their parents explained that her glow was giving off Everstone dust, making it impossible for her to evolve Pok?mon, but it might be possible that Seedot would be able to evolve if it didn't have constant exposure to Amber, which was Amber's hope by giving the Pokémon back to Mike. Feeling crushed by guilt knowing that it was his fault that Amber had originally been hit with the Everstone dust, Mike followed Amber to her room and started apologizing profusely to his sister. In response, Amber hugged her brother tightly and lamented that she could never be an amazing trainer like he was because she could never evolve her Pokémon and make them stronger.
Suddenly, Mike remembered seeing a Contest Hall in Saffron City and told her that she might be able to become a coordinator because they trusted on their Pok?mon's abilities rather than their strength. Seeing a sliver of hope that she might still be able to have Pok?mon, Amber asked Mike if he could take her to see a contest which he immediately agreed to. Over the next few years, Mike and Amber went to every contest that took place in Kanto and even some in Johto. When they weren't at contests Amber spent most of her time trying to forget about being a trainer and being a coordinator instead, by doing the same extensive research she had done years ago. When she was sixteen, Amber finally felt ready to start being a coordinator and asked Mike where he thought she should go. Having heard about Solastella in his travels where there were people who had some of the characteristics of Pokémon and he thought that her condition wouldn't be looked down on there. Although she was annoyed that one more facet of her life was being decided by her condition, Amber agreed to Mike's suggestion and said goodbye to her parents. Since it was his idea, Mike decided that he was going to bring Amber to the new region and the siblings set out to the new region on his Lapras.
