Key Information
Name: Avery Evan McCallister
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Orientation: Straight
Appearance:
Avery knows full well how attractive he is. With a strong jaw, dented with two symmetrical dimples whenever he gives his cocky grin, he's quite the looker. His eyes are a rich, silvery blue that gets any girl's heart pumping with just one look. His head is covered with thick, slightly curly black hair that he never lets get past his ears or his brow. Though plagued with frequent onsets of slight acne, and perhaps not the straightest teeth in the world, he is a lady pleaser, which he uses to his advantage.
His countenance in not the only thing he's got going for him. Standing at five feet, eleven inches, this boy is not short. Weighing one hundred seventy five pounds, his musculature is toned and slightly impressive. But it's not his looks that make him attractive, it's the way he carries it all, and shows it off. His confident stride and strong posture draw the attention of all eyes. Despite his confidence and posture, though, he is quite uncoordinated if he is not focusing.
Along his left shoulder blade is a large scar, noticeable even at a distance. Due to this scar, he's not fond of taking off his shirt, though he will every once in a while. Even with his good looks, he's still uncomfortable with his appearance and feels inadequate in comparison to others, though he never shows it.
Avery has a good sense of style. He is very aware of what looks good in this modern era. He loves leather jackets, and wears them whenever he gets the chance. He also enjoys wearing hats of all sorts. Normally whenever the weather is warm, he's wearing plaid shorts and a single-colored v-neck shirt that matches said shorts. Warm weather does not permit hats, but instead permits him to let his short, curly black hair be in the open. In cooler weather, he will be caught wearing his leather jacket over a white shirt. When it's colder than that, he wears a plain gray sweatshirt underneath his jacket as well. This weather permits the hats he loves to wear - beanies, with or without a small bill.
Personality:
Like mentioned above, Avery is cocky and over confident. This is mostly with his looks, but it seeps over into other things too, such as battles. It's not that he believes he is the best at certain things, he just always feels like he is better than the other person. And he makes that person aware of it. A lot. Some call him a jerk, some call him an asshole, and some call him conceited. These are all true. But it doesn't stop him from getting all of the girls, or actually be skilled at the things he does. He may be a complete jerk, but he is clever and smart as well. Battles come easy to him, just as easily as manipulating the people around him. His intelligence and cunning allows him to subtly manipulate situations into getting what he wants. He's got a talent for it, which is kind of scary.
Avery knows not to take things too far, however. His comments don't get personal, and they aren't truly meant to make people feel bad. They're meant to make people laugh, or to lighten tension. He's not afraid to make fun of himself, either. But it's not his comments that make people think he is a jerk, it's his behavior. It's that cocky smirk that is always placed on his face, no matter how serious the situation. It seems like everything is one big joke to him, when in all actuality he is enjoying life.
This cocky attitude, though, is mostly a shield, used to block out the pains of the world. It's a coping mechanism, and for him it works pretty well. People don't like him? He's okay with it, because he gives them a reason to not like him. He truly opens up once someone becomes a true friend to him. When he has created a bond with a person, he is a friend through thick and thin. It may take a while to become his friend, though, but when someone is his friend, he loses most of the conceitedness when around that person. Even though he feels most vulnerable when that happens, those friends are usually the people he trusts the most. He expects them to not hurt him, but sometimes it happens.
History:
Born and raised as a Unova citizen in the suburbs of Castellia City, Avery was the only child of his parents, Rodger and Anne McCallister. He was actually an accident. His parents were romantically involved in their later teenage years, and at the age of 17, his mom gave birth to him. Neither parent had planned this, but instead succumbed to the adolescent ignorance that plagues the youth still to this day. They were not disheartened, though. Both of his parents were in love, even at that young age, and his grandparents on both sides had offered to assist in his growing up.
Avery's father's side of the family owned their own business, and from that business, his father was already a wealthy man when Avery was given birth. They weren't filthy rich, but were well-off, and could provide for him. Avery was given what he wanted, but always remained a sweetheart, having a correct amount of discipline, and a good-natured heart from the get-go.
Always interested in Pok?mon, Avery would always be found outside, playing with whatever Pokémon he could happen upon. As he grew up, he traveled into the city to chase around the Pidove, and would always pretend he was a trainer, commanding Pokémon to use an attack. They just gave him funny looks and continued on with whatever they were doing, but he enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, when Avery was put into school, things did not go so well. He was always bullied and never had any friends because they were jealous of him. This continued on for most of his life, until one year he started changing. The sweetheart kid who would always ask so kindly for other kids to play with him started becoming distant, and would instead resort to mockery. His lack of friends caused him to become cocky and overconfident, making up for what he didn't have. He started flirting with all of the girls, started making crude comments and became the "bad boy" loner who was always too cocky to hang around.
It was the third time he caused someone to punch him when he just wanted to leave. He wanted to leave his home and leave everyone, even his family, to start fresh. This journey, he thought, would not only help him succeed in becoming a trainer at long last, but would help him in finding who he truly was. Was he still that sweetheart kid who was so kind, or was he now just a jerk that was too cocky for his own good? With a dream that he would find that answer, and become a great Pokémon trainer, he set off to the Solastella Region, where he believes his true self awaits.
Role Play Sample:
The boat skated across the smooth water as the sun hung high in the air. The ferry was full of people all heading toward the Solastella Region. Each of them had different reasons. Some went for business opportunities, some were missionaries, wanting to spread the good word, and some, like him, wanted a fresh start. Avery leaned against the railing on starboard, looking out into the ocean as wind whipped around him. There were Wingull and Pelipper flying around the boat, which meant land was fast approaching. He imagined having one of these Pokémon as his own, commanding them to use Water Gun or Aerial Ace against an opposing Pokémon. He sighed, impatience setting in. In only a short amount of time, he would be on land, and headed toward the region's lab. That lab would give him the building blocks for his journey. Then he would be off into that wonderful world.
With the ever-present smirk set upon his face, he looked around at the people that surrounded him. No one seemed all too interesting to him, so he turned, adjusted his leather jacket, and made his way across the ship. He entered the interior of the boat, safe from the deafening, and chilly, winds outside. Here there were flat screen televisions placed on the walls, showing advertisements and the news on some, and then their location and approximate time of arrival on others. Only a few more minutes.
"Five minutes and we will be docking. Please, everybody, return to your seats," the loudspeaker called out, confirming the time that was presented on some of the screens. He moved towards his designated seat and took temporary residence there, sitting down next to a fine-looking girl who seemed to be all on her own. His eyes at first went to her face, then drifted down a bit. When he noticed she was turning her head toward him, his eyes shot back up and they made eye contact. He smiled at her, giving her look of interest. She looked away, but the telltale signs of a flattered blush was evident.
"You ready to finally get off this damn boat?" he started, and the conversation continued for that five minutes. Once the boat docked, he took he hand and said his farewell, then walked off the boat, the start of his journey much more important than that girl at the moment.
His first step landed on a concrete port. He was on land. In the Solastella Region. He was finally here.
